Mike Callaway, Founder of Polk.Work
After working overseas for a few years I returned home to Lakeland and found getting a job to be difficult. I spent countless hours surfing the web and driving all over the city looking for help wanted signs. After what seemed like a million applications I was still unemployed.
That’s when a friend of mine told me how he found his job through a Facebook post. His father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate knew of someone hiring and had shared it. Another friend spoke up and said that his company was hiring and that I should tell anyone I knew who might be interested to apply. That conversation led to the birth of Lakeland Job Network, a Facebook community page where people could share job openings. Before long the opportunities being shared weren’t just in Lakeland. They were for all over Polk County, sparking a name change to Polk.Work.
Polk.Work has grown tremendously since we started and has no intention of slowing down. We will continue to improve and serve the community to the best of our ability.
